Mexican Retablos, Terra Foundation, Medieval Stained Glass

The latest ARTstor Collection News.

ARTstor, in collaboration with Douglas Massey, has recently added 170 images of Mexican retablos to the Digital Library. Retablos are small, colorful oil paintings made on tin and offered as votives of thanks for miracles granted and favors bestowed.

ARTstor has partnered with the Terra Foundation for American Art to distribute approximately 700 images of American art in the Digital Library. The Terra Foundation collection of American art, which spans the colonial era through 1945, includes more than 700 works by such artists as George Bellows, Mary Cassatt, John Singleton Copley, Stuart Davis, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Maurice and Charles Prendergast, and James McNeill Whistler.

ARTstor is collaborating with Madeline Caviness, Mary Richardson Professor Emerita at Tufts University, to digitize approximately 1,400 images of medieval stained glass windows.
